About the Maryland International Equestrian Foundation

The Maryland International Equestrian Foundation (MIEF) is dedicated to preserving the future of equestrian sport in Maryland by supporting riders, strengthening the community, and expanding access to opportunities at every level.

Maryland’s rich equestrian heritage is at the heart of MIEF’s work. By investing in riders, education, and meaningful competition opportunities, the Foundation helps preserve that legacy while making the sport more accessible and sustainable for future generations.

A central focus of MIEF is supporting riders who face the real costs of training, competition, horse care, and travel. Through initiatives such as FEI Rider Scholarships, MIEF Adult Amateur Star at Fair Hill, MIEF helps riders take the next step—whether that means moving up a level, gaining international experience, or continuing to participate in the sport they love.

MIEF also partners with organizations including Pony Club programs, local youth groups, and Gallop for Life to broaden access to horses and support the people who make the sport thrive.

At its heart, MIEF believes equestrian sport should be welcoming, inspiring, and within reach—building a stronger community, one rider and one opportunity at a time.

Supporting Riders at Every Level

MIEF has established scholarship programs to support riders in achieving their riding, competition, and educational goals.

Through these programs, MIEF is committed to supporting the continued growth of riders, trainers, and the sport of eventing—made possible through the generous support of donors and partners, including Triple Crown.

Young Horse Development

MIEF supports the future of eventing by investing not only in riders, but also in the development of young horses and the breeders behind them. Initiatives such as the Bred to Event Classic provide a platform to showcase emerging talent and reinforce the foundation of the sport for years to come, with support from title sponsor Horse Sport MD.

Strengthening Our Community

The Maryland International Equestrian Foundation (MIEF) is dedicated to supporting the people and organizations that sustain the sport. MIEF is proud to sponsor the USEA Area II Volunteer Award Program (VAP) and to support eventing associations, Pony Clubs, and equestrian clubs throughout the region.

Educational Programs

MIEF partners with local organizations, businesses to provide educational seminars and mounted and unmounted clinics.

Protecting the Future of Eventing in Maryland—From Grassroots to FEI

Sustaining equestrian sport in Maryland—from grassroots through FEI levels—is becoming increasingly challenging as the cost of hosting upper-level competition continues to rise. Competition venues and organizers rely on the support of an engaged community to continue offering these opportunities. With your support, MIEF invests in programs that expand access, support riders at every stage, and promote the development of future sport horses. Your generosity helps ensure that top-level eventing remains in Maryland—creating opportunities for riders and breeders alike, and preserving a clear pathway from entry level to the highest levels of the sport.
