About

Bred to Event Classic is hosted by Loch Moy Farm, in combination with Maryland International Equestrian Foundation. It is a competition dedicated to the breeding of event-bred horses. This classic championship will be an opportunity for breeders and owners alike to showcase their decision-making and horsemanship with the young horses they show.

With the news that the Future Event Horse program is no longer facilitated by USEA, Bred to Event Classic will further support the dedicated breeders and competitors that Loch Moy Farm has hosted at East Coast Future Event Horse Championships for 10 years.

There will be qualifiers and championships for yearlings through 5-year-olds. Robin Walker, Chris Ryan, Susan Graham-White, Stephen Bradley and Peter Gray are among the seasoned judges of this special event. This is intended to be a competition dedicated to the young horse.

There will be special awards for Maryland Bred horses, TB horses, US bred horses, and prize money will be split between Breeders/Owners, and Riders. Winners of the yearling through 3-year-old competition will automatically be given a free entry for 2024 Bred to Event Classic. Winning horses of the 4 and 5-year-old competition will be given an annual entry for 3 years into the Maryland Horse Trials recognized events.

Rules & Guidelines

  • All horses must be registered with a breed association and must provide proper identifying papers to verify age.
  • Due to the time constraints of required performances, there is a limit of 15 entrants in each division.
  • Entrants will be chosen based on their timestamped entry form.
  • If certain divisions are not filled, there may be potential to take more horses in other divisions.
  • Entry information is listed under each calendar date.

Bred To Event score sheets are unique to this series. Individual scoresheets will be provided to competitors after the competition, and a comparative scoresheet showing scores for all the horses in the competition will be posted on the scoreboard. For each age group Championships, the top two horses from each age will be named as Champion and Reserve Champion. The horse that scored the highest percentage in his/her original class will be named the Champion; the horse that scored the second highest percentage in his/her original class will be named Reserve Champion. If there are two (or more) horses with the same score—i.e. “tied scores” then yearlings and 2-year-olds ties will be broken by highest general impression score and 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds will use highest jumping score. If there is still a tie, the judge will decide the winner.
