The Dover Saddlery MDHT Highland Series Presented by Taylor Harris Insurance Services is an unrecognized horse trial series of 6 competitions each year with a year-end Championship in November. Over 300 riders compete at each horse trial in divisions ranging from Lead Line through Preliminary. Each event consists of all three phases (dressage, show jumping, & cross country) with opening and closing dates, just like the USEF/USEA Recognized Horse Trials, however, riders are not required to be members of the USEA or USEF to enter. The Highland Series is a great learning opportunity for horses and riders, young and old, to get accustomed to the sport in a safe environment.
The Horse Sport MD Bred to Event Classic is a relatively new series hosted at Loch Moy Farm. It is a competition dedicated to the breeding of event-bred horses. The Bred to Event Classic awards special distinctions for Maryland Bred horses, Thoroughbred horses, and US bred horses with prize money split between Breeders, Owners, and Riders. The Classic dates include three qualifiers on July 27, August 23, and September 12 followed by a Championship on September 13-14. The Championship is an opportunity for breeders and owners to showcase their decision-making and horsemanship with the young horses they compete.
The Farm also hosts six USDF recognized Dressage shows in addition to the innovative ‘Pick Your Time, Pick Your Test’ Dressage and Blue Ribbon Show Jump Rounds. These schooling shows have a creative twist that is quickly proving to be a big success – competitors use the online registration to choose the ride time that works best for them! It’s first come, first served so the earlier riders sign up, the better chances of getting their ideal time slot, making “show day” an easy fit.
For a fun and casual event check out our Twilight Eventing series featuring divisions from Introductory through Modified. Perfect for young horses, or those wanting to move up a level or just starting to event. We schedule backwards from dusk and start as early as the entries warrant. There are multiple dressage rings set up and the events offer full horse trials, combined tests (dressage and show jumping only) and dressage only. (No fix-a-tests)
Our exciting XDerby events are held on all-weather TRUTEX footing to allow for competitions all year long! All rings will include cross country obstacles typically found on competition cross country courses mixed in with show jump obstacles. The objective is to establish a rhythm over solid jumps in reliable consistent footing. The courses include logs and cross rails through Modified. There is a schooling session to school over the competition jumps beforehand.
November through March also includes schooling opportunities in our TRUTEX arenas for show jumping and dressage as well as access to our cross country courses. Schooling at Loch Moy Farm provides a great opportunity to keep horses fit and ready for the following show season.
